Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has officially assumed the role of Chairperson of the newly inaugurated Police Council, following her swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama at a solemn ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Tuesday.
Delivering her acceptance remarks, the Vice President emphasized the urgent need for a “resetting” of the Ghana Police Service, advocating for principled leadership, a bold strategic vision, and a re-dedication to justice and public service.
“This work is not ceremonial,” she said. “This Council is the moral and strategic compass meant to guide the integrity, professionalism, and transformation of our law enforcement institutions.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang addressed internal grievances within the Service, pledging that the Council would take a firm and deliberate approach to long-standing issues such as delayed promotions, unfair treatment, and discrimination among officers.
“This is a serious responsibility. We are committed to addressing unjustified grievances within the Police Service,” she stated.
To the Ghanaian public, she gave assurances that citizen welfare and public trust in the police would be placed at the center of the Council’s work.
“The safety, rights, and dignity of every citizen will remain central to our mission,” she added.
