The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its respect for the decisions made by the Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam has emphasized the party’s conviction, stating, “We are fortified by the constitution and the standing orders of this house and we see ourselves as the majority.”

Forson’s comment come in response to Speaker Bagbin’s recent decision to adjourn parliamentary sittings indefinitely, a move that has escalated tensions within the legislature.

Speaker Bagbin’s decision follows a contentious ruling regarding the status of four MPs whose seats were declared vacant, a ruling that dramatically shifted the parliamentary power dynamic.

The NDC now claims the majority with 136 seats against the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 135, a situation complicated by a Supreme Court intervention that temporarily allows the affected MPs to retain their seats.

Despite the court’s order, the NDC has remained steadfast, insisting on its newfound majority and challenging the judiciary’s ability to dictate parliamentary affairs.

As the political deadlock continues, Forson remains optimistic, stating, “We are grateful to the right Hon. Speaker for withholding his right and we respect his decisions.”

Speaker Bagbin’s decision to suspend parliamentary proceedings indefinitely signals a deepening conflict between the legislative and judicial branches, leaving the nation’s governance in a state of uncertainty. “The House is accordingly adjourned,” Bagbin concluded.
