Accra – The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to launch investigations into the alleged takeover of the CMB Abuja Market land in Accra by private developers.

Her appeal follows a demonstration on Tuesday by traders and transport unions in the enclave. The groups accused private developers of encroaching on land belonging to the Ghana Railway Development Authority, sparking widespread tension in the busy commercial zone.

Traders contend that the activity has displaced many of them onto the streets, worsening traffic congestion and heightening safety risks for commuters and businesses in one of the city’s most critical trading hubs. They argue that the encroachment has not only disrupted livelihoods but also created chaos in an area already under pressure from overcrowding and poor traffic management.

Speaking to journalists after the protest, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings condemned the situation, describing it as unlawful and destabilizing. “What I would like to do is unequivocally condemn what is happening in this enclave, because it is very clear that this land is state land and should not be taken over by private individuals, especially when we are not sure who is giving the permission,” she said.

She further urged the Ministry of Transport to clarify the matter, given that the Ghana Railway Development Authority falls under its mandate. “And so I would like to call on the Minister of Transport, under whom the Railways Development is situated, to really come out and give clear guidance on this,” she added.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings stressed that the uncertainty surrounding the land’s ownership and management was fueling tension and instability in the area. “In addition to that, I would like to call on the EOCO to investigate this, because this is causing a huge uproar in terms of people’s stability. A huge part of our informal sector is situated in the CMB Abuja Market Enclave,” she emphasised.
