The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public that the breach of policy involving the transportation of election materials in a private vehicle by a District Electoral Officer (DEO) in Afadjato South will not affect Saturday’s elections.
The EC clarified that while the officer did not adhere to the standard procedure of using official vehicles with police escort, this incident will not compromise the upcoming elections in the Volta Region’s Afadjato South Constituency.
In response to the breach, the Police questioned the District Electoral Officer on Thursday, December 5, and took custody of the election materials.
The EC emphasized that its policy requires all election materials to be transported in official vehicles, with police escorts when necessary, to ensure security and proper handling.
The commission has committed to conducting an internal investigation into the matter and will fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation.
Despite the breach, the Electoral Commission reassured the public that the integrity of the election process remains intact.
The EC emphasized that the situation would not disrupt the elections in the constituency, and it urged all stakeholders to maintain confidence in the election process as the country prepares for the polls on December 7, 2024.

RE: POLICE QUESTIONS EC OFFICER OF AFADJATO SOUTH DISTRICT OVER ELECTION MATERIALS IN PRIVATE VEHICLE
The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that Officers of the Ghana Police Service yesterday [Dec 5] questioned the Commission’s District Electoral Officer (DEO) of the Afadjato South in the Volta Region for transporting Election Materials in a private vehicle without Police escort. The Police subsequently took custody of the items.
The policy of the Commission is for its Officers to transport all Election Materials in official vehicles with Police escort where necessary.
The Commission will conduct its own internal investigations while also cooperating with the Police in their investigations.
We wish to assure the Public that though the Officer breached the policy of the Commission, the actions of the Officer will not in any way compromise the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency.
