Communications Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Baah Adofo, has reiterated that government’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues is unambiguous, emphasizing that same-sex marriages are not recognized under existing law.
Speaking on ABC In The Morning on Thursday, April 9, 2026, member of the NDC Communications team, stated: “There is no ambiguity. There is no existing law that agrees that a man and a man can marry in Ghana, and a Woman and a woman can marry. So the Party’s position is clear.”
He further criticized the political manipulation surrounding the issue, noting: “The political gimmicks is too much.”
Adofo explained the procedural steps required for any legal change, saying: “There is a process it has to go through. The onus lies on parliament to reintroduce the bill so the President assents to it.”
The comments come amid ongoing public discourse on LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana, where same-sex marriage remains illegal, reflecting the sensitive nature of the issue nationwide.
