The Minority caucus in Parliament has issued a stern warning to summon the Administrator of the Scholarship Secretariat to appear before the legislative body in the coming days to address the lingering issue of unpaid bursaries for members of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG).

In a heated statement, the opposition party criticized the government for its failure to release funds allocated to the tune of GH¢223 million in the budget specifically designated for the scholarship secretariat. This delay in disbursing funds has resulted in a backlog of bursaries owed to GRASAG members, amounting to two years’ worth of financial support.

Addressing concerned parties during the handing-over ceremony at the University of Ghana, Legon, the Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, vowed to employ all available legislative avenues to ensure that the government fulfills its financial obligations to the deserving graduate students. He emphasized the urgent need to disburse these funds to alleviate the financial strain on the student community.

“The Minority will in the coming days go through the right processes to get the administrator of the Scholarship Secretariat to answer why the bursaries of the GRASAG are in arrears for two years. Because even as we are concerned those monies have been made available. We can only do this based on the laws,” he stated.
