The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has reported a substantial increase in revenue following the generation of GHS 467 million in taxes from e-commerce businesses in the country.

Commissioner General of the GRA, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah who disclosed this in an interview with ABC News GH said a total of 500 e-commerce businesses have been registered on the authority’s digital platform, for which it is able to monitor their operations and duly tax these companies.

“The Authority has put in place appropriate measures to ensure that as much as possible we generate enough revenue from the e-commerce sector.

“So far, we have successfully registered about 500 e-commerce businesses. This exemplifies our ongoing efforts to promote tax compliance in the digital age,” he said.

He said this successful revenue collection from e-commerce businesses is expected to bolster the nation’s financial stability, supporting various government initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of Ghana’s citizens.

He said this also reflects the country’s evolving business landscape, with e-commerce playing an increasingly critical role in economic growth and development.

In addition to the tax revenue generated from e-commerce businesses, Dr. Owusu-Amoah revealed that the GRA exceeded its revenue target for 2022. The Authority mobilized a remarkable GHS 75 billion in revenue, surpassing the set target of GHS 72 billion.

This, the Commissioner stressed that this demonstrates the effectiveness of GRA’s revenue collection strategies and its commitment to responsible fiscal governance.
