The Nhyiaeso Constituency’s parliamentary primaries within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have encountered a temporary suspension, a strategic response to an interlocutory injunction initiated by one of the aspiring candidates. This legal maneuver has resulted in the deferment of the scheduled election.

This significant development unfolded during the National Executive Committee meeting convened on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Additionally, a noteworthy decision emerged in the Bimbilla constituency, where one aspirant faced disqualification. Consequently, this move left the Minister of Defense, Dominic Nitiwul, as the sole candidate running uncontested.

In a parallel scenario, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan is set to run unopposed in Ayawaso West-Wuogon. This unique circumstance arose after the party’s former constituency youth organizer, Owusu Amankwah, faced rejection in his petition process.

Notably, a trend is emerging with approximately thirty other aspirants securing unopposed positions in various constituencies where the NPP maintains representation. This scenario is poised to unfold during the NPP’s parliamentary primaries scheduled for January 27, 2024. The political landscape is witnessing both legal and procedural intricacies, shaping the trajectory of the upcoming elections within the party.
