The majority caucus in Parliament, led by Member of Parliament for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Osei Owusu, has clarified that there are no plans to alter their leadership structure.
Mr. Osei Owusu firmly stated that any reports suggesting otherwise should be disregarded, affirming that the current leadership, including Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, will continue to lead the caucus.
Addressing concerns raised by certain media reports hinting at potential leadership changes within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) majority caucus in Parliament, Mr. Osei Owusu emphasized that such claims are unfounded. He reassured the public that the caucus stands firmly behind its current leadership, asserting that “the status quo shall remain.”
“The publications that are going around are false, the majority caucus has not made any changes to its leadership, and the majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes to its leadership, and we want to tell you to ignore any such publication,” he said when the majority caucus addressed the media in Parliament on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
Furthermore, Mr. Osei Owusu emphasized that any decisions regarding leadership within the majority caucus are solely within the caucus’s purview. He clarified that the caucus is unaware of any external efforts to influence or modify its leadership structure. As such, only the caucus itself holds the authority and power to enact any changes to its leadership.
