Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu has completed a move to Ipswich Town from Leicester City, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2031.

The 22-year-old joins the Tractor Boys for an undisclosed fee as manager Gary O’Neil strengthens his squad ahead of Ipswich Town’s Premier League campaign.

Fatawu arrives at Ipswich after an impressive spell with Leicester City, where he scored nine goals in 44 appearances during the 2025/26 season. He previously played a key role in Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League during the 2023/24 Championship campaign, earning the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

The Ghana international was also part of the Black Stars squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all four matches, including Ghana’s group-stage meeting with England. He has earned 32 senior caps for Ghana, scoring three goals.

Speaking after completing his transfer, Fatawu expressed his excitement about joining Ipswich and being part of the club’s ambitions.

“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town. The ambition the club has is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season. After speaking to the manager (Gary O’Neil), I know what the expectation is and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work.”

He added:

“I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I’m excited to play for them and show them what I can do.”

Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil praised the qualities Fatawu brings to his squad, highlighting his technical ability and attacking threat.

“Abdul is a young player who has already gained good experience in the game and we’re excited to have him with us.”

“He has strong physical and technical attributes, is comfortable on the ball and can test the opposition in one-on-one situations, so will provide us with good options within the squad.”

Born in Tamale, Ghana, Fatawu began his football journey with Steadfast before moving to Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier Division. His performances earned him a move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP in 2022, where he gained Champions League experience.

He later joined Leicester City on loan before making the move permanent, establishing himself as one of Ghana’s promising attacking talents.

At international level, Fatawu was named Player of the Tournament when Ghana won the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and made his senior debut later that year. He also featured at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before becoming a key member of Ghana’s squad at the 2026 tournament.

The winger will now join his new teammates at Ipswich Town’s training camp in La Manga, Spain, as preparations continue for the upcoming Premier League season.
