Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has denied reports suggesting he was maltreated during his recent detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
He was briefly held over an ongoing investigation into a revenue assurance contract allegedly awarded by GACL without due process.
Mr. Adom-Otchere was released on Friday, August 1, after the OSP approved revised bail conditions.
His earlier inability to meet the original bail terms was reportedly linked to the absence of landed property in Ghana.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Adom-Otchere described his experience at the detention facility as normal and devoid of abuse.
“It’s a normal place they detain every Ghanaian. You are detained with people who are also detained. Nobody maltreated anyone. That is for sure. It’s a state-owned,” he said, adding that the environment, while basic, was structured to ensure comfort for detainees.
“Yes, yes, you will be in a room with other people… usually about 25 people, not in the same room. I was in a room with other people.”
He further noted that basic necessities were provided to all detainees.
“They give you a mattress, yes, for now, it’s a double mattress… and they give you a blanket; they treat you well. They provide clothes,” he explained, while clarifying that access to the outside world was restricted: “You can’t contact anyone.”
The OSP’s investigation into the contract involving GACL is still ongoing.
