Senior analyst at Global Info Analytics, Salam Nsiah, has forecasted a closely contested race in the upcoming Akwatia by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.
Despite the latest poll by his outfit showing the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu in the lead, Nsiah maintains that the margins suggest a competitive race, cautioning against any assumptions of an easy victory.
The recent poll conducted across 21 electoral areas with a sample size of 2,087 places the NPP candidate at 49.7%, ahead of the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo who polled 43.8%, with 6.5% undecided or leaning toward a potential third candidate.
While many initially assumed voter sympathy following the death of the former MP could heavily influence the race, the data instead shows development-related concerns dominating voter priorities in the constituency.
Nsiah also warned the NPP against over-relying on sympathy votes. “As sad as the passing of the former Akwatia MP was, where some voters may decide to vote on the basis of sympathy, the NPP should not dwell on it entirely as it may backfire,” he spoke to ABC News GH.
