The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has strongly denied any involvement in disseminating false information to the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend Ntim Fordjour, regarding alleged drug trafficking involving two aircraft that recently landed at the Kotoka International Airport.
In a press statement dated April 8, 2025, GACL clarified that it does not issue landing permits or conduct security checks on incoming aircraft. “Landing permits of all aircraft entering Ghana are issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in conjunction with the National Security and NOT GACL,” the statement emphasized. It further noted that all necessary security checks were carried out by Aviation Security and National Security agencies, while Swissport handled ground services. “There was no evidence of any illegal substances on board both aircraft,” the release stated.
Refuting any direct link between its leadership and the MP, GACL said, “The Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare does not know or has never met or spoken to Rev. Ntim Fordjour.” The company urged the MP to provide evidence supporting his claims, warning that legal action would be pursued against individuals or media outlets spreading false or defamatory information. “Discerning Ghanaians are entreated to disregard these fictitious and malicious allegations and treat them with the contempt they deserve,” the statement concluded.
