As Parliament resumed today for the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament, CENS Africa has issued a strong call for lawmakers not to delay the revocation of Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, which controversially permits mining in Forest Reserves.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Paa Kwesi Eduaful Abaidoo of CENS Africa stressed that “Parliament need to compel the Minister to bring this matter to an end,” adding, “It really should be of a concern to all of us. This is about livelihood. This is not something we should defer.”
With the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review expected in August, the resumption of the House has intensified scrutiny over how Parliament intends to handle L.I. 2462.
Abaidoo urged Parliament to “devise a more sustainable approach, even if you are revoking the L.I., so that we can sustain the quality of our resources.”
He added that civil society expects MPs to “really echoe this and bring finality to this issue.” As legislative activity ramps up, pressure mounts on Parliament to act decisively on a law that continues to provoke national controversy.
