Three people have been confirmed dead and about 15 others injured following a violent incident at New Winneba in the Central Region.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred at about 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when about 300 people from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze reportedly stormed the New Winneba Township.
The group, described by the police as an irate mob, was allegedly armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks.
The police said the group attacked natives in the area, including residents and shop owners, and caused damage to properties.
About 15 injured victims have since been sent to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment. The injured include a police officer.
Three people have so far been confirmed dead in connection with the violence.
In response, personnel from the Winneba Divisional Headquarters and patrol teams from the Agona Swedru District have been deployed to restore and maintain security in the area.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has also deployed a reinforcement team from the National Police Headquarters, including two armoured vehicles, to strengthen security operations.
The Police Service said the situation is currently under control.
It added that further details on the incident will be communicated in due course.
