The General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, has criticized the government for prioritizing the reintroduction of road tolls over the urgent need to address road safety.
According to him, the growing rate of road accidents calls for immediate attention, but the government appears more focused on revenue generation than protecting lives.
Speaking on the issue, Ohene-Yeboah bemoaned what he described as the government’s misplaced priorities.
He argued that the deplorable state of many roads across the country continues to endanger motorists and passengers, yet authorities seem more interested in toll collection than fixing the underlying infrastructure challenges.
He urged the government to redirect its efforts toward improving the road network and implementing stricter safety measures to curb the alarming number of accidents.
For him, the safety of road users should take precedence over financial gains from tolls, especially at a time when public confidence in transport safety remains fragile.
