Janet Nabla, the Founder of the People’s National Party (PNP), has revealed that a nationwide demonstration will take place on May 5, 2025, in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale.
This protest, organized by a coalition of political parties, is aimed at opposing the suspension of the Chief Justice (CJ) and what they view as a direct attack on Ghana’s democratic principles.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Nabla accused the government of violating the constitution throughout the entire process.
“The government has flouted the constitution. It was a predetermined plan to remove the CJ,” she stated.
Nabla’s remarks are part of a broader stance that sees the suspension of the CJ as part of a calculated effort to undermine judicial independence.
Nabla firmly rejected accusations that her actions were politically motivated, emphasizing that her stance is about defending the country rather than pursuing political gain.
“I am not doing this for political gains, I am doing this for the country, infact NPP has nothing that interest me, i am instead doing this for the benefit of the country.” she asserted.
The PNP flagbearer’s comments come amid a broader coalition protest involving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), National Democratic Party (NDP), and Ghana Union Movement (GUM).
The coalition has called on all citizens, civil society organizations, and religious groups to join the demonstration in defense of judicial independence, warning that the President’s actions could be part of a larger effort to “capture every arm of government, even the judiciary.”
