Chairman of the Kusaug Heritage Defenders, Ahmed Isshaq Ndebugri, has declared the group’s full support for the mediation efforts being led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Manhyia Palace to resolve the decades-long Bawku conflict.
Speaking to ABC Midday News, Mr. Ndebugri expressed confidence in the Asantehene’s traditional leadership, stating that “whatever outcome of this engagement will be accepted.”
He emphasized that knowing who the Otumfuo is, the people of Kusaug trust he will do the right thing for peace to prevail.
Mr. Ndebugri stressed the shared heritage between the Mamprusi and Kusasi people, stressing the need to end the cycle of violence.
“This is not a situation where we should continue killing ourselves. Mamprusi and the Kusasi, after all, are one people” he said. He added that the youth in Kusaug are not violent and are committed to ensuring the success of the mediation process for the long-term benefit of the region.
The statement comes in the wake of the Kusaug Heritage Defenders’ official endorsement of Otumfuo’s involvement, describing his intervention as a credible path toward lasting peace.
The Bawku conflict, rooted in ethnic and chieftaincy disputes, has plagued the area for decades, resulting in casualties, displacement, and economic stagnation.
The group believes that the current dialogue, guided by Otumfuo’s wisdom, provides a real opportunity to restore unity and development in the Kusaug Traditional Area.
