President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to collaborate on the immediate rollout of Ghana’s long-awaited e-visa services.
The directive, issued on Monday, August 4, during the commissioning of the Air Navigation Services (ANS) and the Multi-Agency Command Centre, calls for the integration of the new systems with existing platforms to streamline visa processes and border control.
The President emphasized that the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems, which capture detailed passenger and travel document data, must be extended to Ghana’s sea and land borders and linked with the country’s e-gate infrastructure.
He further tasked the ministers to incorporate advanced cargo tracking into the platform to support customs operations and improve cross-border coordination.
Highlighting the economic and tourism benefits, President Mahama stated that the implementation of the e-visa platform will significantly reduce paperwork and bureaucracy, while boosting Ghana’s attractiveness as a destination for business and leisure.
“The future of travel is digital, and Ghana must not be left behind,” he said.
