President John Dramani Mahama has submitted the final batch of deputy ministerial nominees to Parliament, fulfilling his bold campaign promise to operate the government with no more than 60 ministers.
A letter issued by the Minister in charge of Government Communication, Mr. Kwarkye Ofosu, on Tuesday, July 9, confirmed that the nominations have been sent to the Speaker of Parliament for prior approval in accordance with Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
The latest nominees include:
Dorcas Toffey, MP for Jomoro Constituency, for the Ministry of Transport
James G. Quayson, MP for Assin North, for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Mohammed Adam Sukparu, MP for Sissala West, for the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations
Grace Ayensu-Danquah, MP for Essikado-Ketan, for the Ministry of Health
These four deputies are expected to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting in the coming days.
This development officially completes the President’s streamlined ministerial team, consisting of 60 ministers and deputy ministers in total.
The earlier batch of 56 was vetted and approved, and they have since assumed their respective roles.
With this move, President Mahama becomes the first head of state in Ghana’s Fourth Republic to limit the size of his executive to such a compact structure — a politically symbolic shift aimed at reducing government expenditure and improving administrative efficiency.
