President John Mahama has assured trainee nurses that all outstanding allowances from January this year will be paid in full once a new centralized payment system becomes operational.
Speaking during his thank-you tour in the Bono East Region, Mahama acknowledged the delays but emphasized that the Finance Minister has already made budgetary allocations to settle the arrears.
“What has delayed the payment is that we are implementing a new system through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department,” he explained.
“Once this system is ready, you’ll receive your allowances every month alongside other public sector workers, and all arrears from January will be paid.”
The President further stated that the new system will end the chronic delays that have plagued the trainee allowance scheme for years, creating a more reliable and efficient payment structure.
He is accompanied on the tour by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives.
As part of his itinerary, Mahama is scheduled to address a durbar of chiefs and people in Sunyani on Friday, May 30, and conclude the regional tour on Saturday, May 31, with an engagement in Goaso, the capital of the Ahafo Region.
