Parliament is set to begin the fifth meeting of its fourth session on October 15, 2024, at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

This relocation is necessary due to ongoing renovation works in the main chamber of Parliament, which typically serves as the venue for its sessions.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced the new arrangements in a statement issued on Monday, September 30, 2024, notifying Members of Parliament (MPs) of the upcoming sitting.

The reconvening of Parliament marks a key moment in the legislative calendar, with the session expected to address several pressing national issues.

The temporary relocation to the AICC has raised questions among stakeholders about potential logistical challenges, but the Speaker has assured that all measures are in place for a smooth transition.

During the session, MPs will deliberate on matters that are vital to the country’s governance, particularly those affecting national development and the economy.

This upcoming session follows a two-day emergency sitting at the Dome earlier in September, where Parliament approved a $250 million loan from the World Bank to support Ghana’s Energy Sector Recovery Programme.

The loan had previously been disapproved before the recess, prompting the emergency recall of MPs on September 3.

Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of this approval, stating, “This financial support is critical to stabilizing our energy sector, and Parliament had to act swiftly to ensure the country’s economic stability.”
