The Ghana Police Service has disclosed grisly details from its forensic investigation into the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was found on July 9, 2025, near GBC Satellite, Accra.
The victim had been missing since July 4, triggering a widespread search operation. At a press conference on August 4, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, outlined key findings that have led to the suspect, initially charged with kidnapping, now facing formal murder charges.
Forensic teams uncovered chilling evidence at the suspect’s residence and surrounding areas.
Investigators found blood stains and signs of attempted cleaning inside the suspect’s living room, including freshly sprayed walls and an empty spray paint can. A secondary crime scene near the GBC Satellite site revealed a burnt wooden carpet stained with blood and partially burnt camouflage fabric.
A further search with a court warrant uncovered additional blast stains in a room of the suspect’s house. Police also found a fufu pestle stained with blast marks wrapped in polythene in nearby bushes and collected blood-stained samples from the suspect’s vehicle.
Initial forensic tests confirmed the blood was human, with DNA samples from the victim’s mother and son sent for profiling to establish a conclusive link.
Following these discoveries, the suspect, Bright Aweh, was rearrested and charged with murder after initially being held for kidnapping. He remains in custody after appearing before the Adabraka District Court, with his next hearing scheduled for August 8, 2025.
COP Donkor revealed that police are actively conducting a special operation to identify and arrest accomplices, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing to secure all necessary evidence against the suspect and any collaborators.
