Legal practitioner Yaw Danquah has taken a bold stand against what he calls the dangerous politicization of prosecutorial duties in Ghana.
Appearing on ABC in the Morning, he blasted former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame for engaging in political exchanges with Dr. Dominic Ayine, arguing that both men were dodging the core legal issues at stake.
According to Danquah, their statements have only deepened public confusion and cast further doubt on the credibility of the justice system.
Danquah cautioned that political influence within the Attorney General’s office is threatening the fairness of prosecutions, making legal battles more about party loyalty than the rule of law.
He warned that the legal system is not a political playground, yet we continue to see legal arguments hijacked by partisan agendas.
His comments have sparked renewed calls for reforms to ensure the independence of Ghana’s prosecutorial system.
“We are losing sight of the substance”
“Since he was appointed, almost every single day he has been withdrawing cases. So, what time does he have to consult widely and be well-informed about the decisions he has to make?”
“If that is the trend, it means nobody will be held accountable.”
“All you have to do is drag your matter to court, wait for the next political party that is favorable to you, and then your case will be dropped. That is the signal you are sending to us.”
