Former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Dennis Kwakwa, has criticized the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, over his handling of the DStv subscription pricing issue.
According to Kwakwa, the Minister’s approach in demanding a price cut from MultiChoice, the operators of DStv, comes off as “intimidating and authoritative.”
Speaking on ABC News Gh, Kwakwa acknowledged the Minister’s intention to advocate for Ghanaians but argued that it was unfair to single out MultiChoice for pricing concerns when the government itself has not addressed the taxes that influence service costs.
He stressed that reducing prices should be a shared responsibility and not imposed unilaterally.
Kwakwa further suggested that instead of confrontation, the Minister should have engaged in a constructive dialogue with the company to understand the basis for their pricing.
He believes a more consultative approach would yield better results for both the government and consumers without creating an atmosphere of tension.
