The Planning Committee for the state funeral of the eight military personnel who perished in the August 6 helicopter crash has announced that the ceremony will be conducted mainly by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) with support from civilians.
Addressing the media, Air Commodore Thomas Niifio Okai said the event will follow the format of a full military funeral with minimal civilian activities.
The arrangement is part of the government’s detailed plans for the solemn ceremony, scheduled for Friday, August 15.
The Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Stan Dogbey, had earlier outlined that the state funeral will be divided into three main parts and will feature arrangements for a special guest and other dignitaries.
The service, he noted, will reflect the military’s tradition of honouring fallen heroes, with the Armed Forces taking the lead in all ceremonial and burial activities.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has assured of enhanced traffic management during the funeral rites.
Chief Superintendent Alexander Obeng, speaking at the Planning Committee’s press briefing, said officers from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate will be deployed to control traffic and ensure smooth movement around the funeral venue.
The state funeral is expected to draw high-level state officials, foreign dignitaries, and thousands of mourners paying their last respects to the gallant eight.
