NDC Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Jibril, has challenged the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) explanation for pulling out of the Tamale Central by-election, questioning the sincerity of their decision.
He argued that if the withdrawal was truly based on moral grounds, the party should take the same stance in other constituencies, including Akwatia.
“However, they will contest Akwatia. Are they saying they are grieving with the nation?” Jibril asked pointedly in an interview with ABC News GH
His remarks come after the NPP cited the “circumstances under which the Tamale Central seat has become vacant” and the need to avoid deepening divisions during national mourning as reasons for their decision.
Jibril said the ruling party’s position reflects inconsistency.
“We don’t think politics is that way. The NDC is not withdrawing from the Akwatia by-election,” he emphasised, accusing the NPP of exploiting the tragedy for political advantage rather than showing genuine moral leadership.
