The Ghana National Fire Service has recorded a total of 3,595 fire incidents across the country from January to June 2025, a marginal increase of 19 cases compared to 3,576 incidents recorded during the same period in 2024.
The 0.53% rise, although minimal, raises concerns about lingering risk factors and lapses in safety compliance in some areas.
The Service attributes the uptick primarily to the unusually harsh harmattan season experienced in the first quarter of 2025 and persistent non-compliance with basic fire safety practices.
“Why the slight rise in fire incidents nationwide? It’s largely due to the harsh weather conditions earlier this year and the public’s disregard for simple safety protocols,” the report stated.
The GNFS is urging the public to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to fire prevention measures to avoid further incidents.
Despite the increase, fire officials emphasized that improved public education and emergency preparedness efforts have helped keep the numbers relatively stable.
They are calling on households, businesses, and institutions to continue investing in fire safety equipment and training, especially as the country enters another dry season in the latter half of the year.
