The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its supporters to prioritize their safety as the nation prepares for John Dramani Mahama’s anticipated swearing-in as President on January 7.
Speaking at a press conference today, the party executives emphasized, “Protect your life to witness Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony.”
They warned of potential provocations from “disgruntled NPP supporters” seeking to cause unrest and shift blame onto the NDC.
During the same briefing, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, accused Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, of shooting an NDC supporter in the leg during the election period.
Gyamfi also disclosed that two party supporters were reportedly murdered at Akomadan, raising alarms about targeted violence.
Despite these incidents, he urged calm, stating, “Let us maintain peace because the results from the collation centers are final and cannot be changed.”
Provisional results from 12 out of 16 regions indicate a strong lead for the NDC, with Mahama securing 3,874,329 votes (60.20%) compared to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2,445,495 votes (38.00%).
Gyamfi expressed confidence in the outcome, asserting that the results reflect the will of the people.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the democratic process while ensuring a peaceful transition of power.
