Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, former spokesperson for the Akufo-Addo administration, has raised serious concerns about a police shooting incident that occurred during the nomination event of Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka as Interior Minister-Designate.

In a post on his X page, Boakye-Danquah condemned the actions of police officers who were filmed shooting into the air in celebration.

A police officer was seen firing shots in jubilation as he congratulated Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka on his nomination as Interior Minister-Designate.

He questioned the lack of accountability for the police officer, asking, “What if mistakenly this shooting had missed its chance and shot at the Minister-designate? Would we have said the policeman has killed his boss?”

He further expressed his disbelief that such actions could go unchecked, calling for urgent action from the Ghana Police Service (GhPS).

Hon. Muntaka during the incident

Boakye-Danquah also took to social media to question the broader implications of the incident.

“Are we the general people in Ghana at risk of police personnel who take decisions on their own with the use of AK47 in the public domain?” he wrote.

He highlighted the potential risks posed by unchecked police behavior, emphasizing the need for better oversight.

He also pointed out that the Ghana Police Service had not yet issued any statement on the matter, prompting further concerns about the lack of transparency in the handling of the incident.

The former spokesperson did not only demand accountability but also recommended immediate actions to address the situation.

He urged the Minister-Designate for the Interior to withdraw the police officer involved from his security detail, initiate an investigation into the shooting, and ensure disciplinary measures were enforced.

Boakye-Danquah concluded his statement by asserting that such incidents should not be allowed to continue, as they sent the wrong message to the public, and called on the Ghana Police Service to take swift action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Palgrave Danquah Writes;

I have been watching this video since the video surfaced on social media. I have some questions ❓ to ask and I don’t intend to have a political opinion on this but I genuinely have some questions ❓

  1. The Police Man that shot the bullets in jubilation, has he been called by the
    @GhPoliceService?
  2. How do police officers/personnel account for bullets at the end of the day? Either used or unused?
  3. Are we the general people in Ghana at risk of police personnel who take decisions on their own with the use of AK47 in the public domain?
  4. I have been on the social media pages of the Ghana Police Service and I have not seen any statement from them stating either an investigation is ongoing to ascertain why this police officer did what he did?
  5. If at all there’s a disciplinary committee set up to discipline this said police officer?

From my observation, I can clearly see that the Minister designate for Interior was shocked 😳 at the shooting and hopefully will be stunned at the indiscipline of the police officer.

What if mistakenly this shooting had missed its chance and shot at the Minister designate? Would we have said the Police Man has killed his boss?

My questions remain mine and mine alone.

As I conclude let me kindly ask the GhPS to please look at this as it doesn’t send the right message.

I’ll also like to admonish the Minister designate for the Interior to do the following things;

  1. Ask for the said police officer to be withdrawn from his security detail?
  2. Ask for an investigation into why he shot those bullets in his home and presence?
  3. Ask for some discipline to be meted out to him?

Thank you.

Good evening.
