Zebilla Constituency Youth Organiser and Upper East Regional representative, Akumbo Samuel Wakiki, has rejected suggestions that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general election was due to its then-flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Wakiki insisted that external factors played a larger role in the defeat, not Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
“There is a lot of external factors that affected the party and not Bawumia in particular,” he said, defending the former Vice President’s record.
Wakiki argued that Dr. Bawumia remains the party’s best chance at reclaiming power in 2028, citing his strong appeal among the youth and his track record in government.
Wakiki’s comments came as over 490 youth organizers of the NPP declared their unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia ahead of the party’s January 2026 presidential primary.
He said the group is optimistic about rallying more than 99% of the party’s youth to back Bawumia, describing him as “a formidable force” who can deliver victory.
