Senior Research Fellow at the Kumasi Technical University, Prof. Smart Sarpong, has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against rejecting outcomes of internal elections, stressing that such conduct undermines democratic principles.
He explained that party elections are guided by democratic values, and as such, the decisions of the majority must be upheld and respected by all members.
Prof. Sarpong described those who challenge electoral outcomes for personal reasons as disruptive and motivated by selfish interests.
According to him, “that behaviour is odd and selfish,” since it places individual ambitions above the collective will of the party.
He further maintained that unity can only be achieved when members accept results in good faith and work together towards common goals.
The Senior Research Fellow, therefore, urged party leaders and stakeholders to take a firm stance against such conduct. He insisted that those who attempt to disregard the outcomes of democratic processes must be firmly corrected.
“We must call those people to order,” Prof. Sarpong emphasized, adding that protecting democratic integrity is key to ensuring stability within the party.
