Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has expressed optimism about the club’s direction after beginning his UEFA Champions League journey with a hard-fought victory at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues secured a narrow 1-0 win over Cypriot side Pafos in the group stage, with Moisés Caicedo rising highest to head home the decisive goal in the 78th minute. The result marked Rosenior’s first Champions League match in charge since taking over earlier this month.
Speaking after the game, the Chelsea boss admitted the performance was not without its challenges but highlighted the importance of securing maximum points, especially against a defensively organised opponent.
“When you play against a low block your pivot players play higher up and hopefully he – Moises Caicedo – can continue chipping in with goals,” Rosenior said. “Of course you want to score more goals but the reality is we are in the top eight.”
The former Strasbourg coach noted that victories like this provide belief and momentum as he continues to implement his ideas within the squad. Chelsea dominated possession for long spells but had to remain patient before eventually breaking through late on.
Rosenior’s positive assessment reflects his confidence in the team’s growth and adaptability, particularly as Chelsea aim to balance domestic ambitions with European demands.
