The Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into custody for two weeks over allegations relating to misinformation and offensive public remarks.
The outspoken politician was reportedly rearrested on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as security agencies continue investigations into comments allegedly considered false and capable of causing public unrest.
His latest detention comes just weeks after he was granted bail following an earlier arrest connected to the same case.
Abronye DC was first apprehended on April 13, 2026, over accusations bordering on false publication, offensive conduct and statements said to be likely to provoke fear and panic among sections of the public.
Although he was subsequently released on bail to assist with investigations, authorities have now moved to place him back in custody as investigations intensify.
Details surrounding the specific circumstances of the latest arrest remain unclear. However, sources familiar with the matter say the ongoing probe forms part of wider efforts by security agencies to tackle the circulation of alleged false information and inflammatory public commentary.
The development has since sparked discussions within political circles, with supporters of the NPP closely monitoring the case as legal proceedings continue.
