The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has condemned what he described as the unlawful and disgraceful arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi.
Kodua said he received a distress call early Friday morning from Mr. Kumi, who reported that approximately 20 armed men had surrounded his Adenta residence, banging on his gate and demanding he come out.
“On my way to his residence, I received another call—this time from his wife—saying he had been taken away and that they told her he was being sent to an office,” Kodua told reporters.
Upon reaching the scene, Kodua said Mr. Kumi had already been taken, and the condition of the property was alarming.
“The front door had been destroyed, and a woman living in the house was allegedly assaulted with the butt of a rifle,” he stated. Expressing outrage over the conduct of the unidentified men, he asked, “What crime has Adenta Kumi committed?”
Kodua emphasized that Kumi had merely submitted a petition to the President after observing suspected wrongdoing, yet received no response—only to be “forcibly picked up without explanation.”
Kodua further accused the authorities of using fear and intimidation instead of due process.
“Are they trying to intimidate him? If someone has filed a petition, the right course of action is to invite them—not to storm their home without a warrant,” he argued.
He confirmed that Mr. Kumi’s whereabouts remained unknown, but they had documented the vehicle used in the operation—registration number WE 323-11—and photographed some of the individuals involved.
“We are now on our way to the National Security office to confirm whether he is being held there,” Kodua added.
