Ahead of President John Mahama’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called on him to be transparent about the state of the country he inherited from the previous administration.
The opposition lawmakers argue that Ghanaians deserve an honest assessment of key national issues, including employment, the economy, and the ongoing power crisis.
They insist that Mahama must acknowledge the challenges his government is facing rather than shifting blame or downplaying the realities on the ground.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament, the NPP MPs emphasized the need for accountability, urging the president to present clear strategies to address the country’s economic difficulties.
According to them, any attempt to misrepresent facts would only erode public confidence in his leadership.
With heightened political tensions between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition, Mahama’s address is expected to set the tone for governance in his new term, as both parties prepare to debate his administration’s policy direction.
