Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement from his personal office released Sunday.
The 82-year-old was evaluated after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms, leading to the discovery of a prostate nodule.
The cancer, classified with a Gleason score of 9 indicating a high-grade tumor is considered hormone-sensitive, which doctors say allows for “effective management.”
Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his physicians, the statement noted.
The diagnosis comes just months after a clean bill of health was issued in February 2024 following Biden’s physical at Walter Reed, where no new concerns were raised.
Questions surrounding Biden’s health and age were a persistent theme during his presidency and resurfaced after a faltering debate with Donald Trump in June 2023.
Although he has kept a relatively low profile since leaving office, Biden appeared on ABC’s The View earlier this month to defend his cognitive state, declaring, “They are wrong.
There is nothing to sustain that.” He is currently at home in Wilmington, Delaware, as further medical details remain under wraps.
