Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will officially be unveiled on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel, where he is scheduled to meet the media for the first time since his appointment.
The press conference is set to begin at 1:00pm and will mark the Portuguese tactician’s first formal engagement with journalists following his confirmation as head coach of Ghana national football team. The event is expected to draw a strong media presence, as attention turns to the man tasked with leading Ghana into a crucial phase ahead of the global showpiece.
During the session, Queiroz is anticipated to outline his vision for the team, including his football philosophy, tactical approach, and immediate priorities as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The 73-year-old takes over from Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats in March — a 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna and a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart.
Queiroz has been handed a short-term contract that runs through the World Cup, with an option for review after the tournament. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed top sides including Real Madrid, as well as national teams such as Iran national football team and Egypt national football team. Over the course of his career, he has guided four different nations to the World Cup.
Following his unveiling, Queiroz is expected to take charge of Ghana’s remaining preparatory fixtures. The Black Stars will face Mexico national football team in an international friendly before wrapping up their build-up with a final warm-up match against Wales national football team on June 2.
Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the World Cup and has been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England on June 23 in Boston and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
Beyond its ceremonial significance, Thursday’s unveiling is expected to set the tone for Queiroz’s tenure, offering him the opportunity to engage the Ghanaian public, manage expectations, and establish early rapport with the media and supporters as the team prepares for one of its most demanding World Cup assignments.
