Constitutional Lawyer Kwame Adofo has raised serious doubts about the credibility and objectivity of the committee investigating suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, alleging that its members are not pursuing justice, but rather executing a politically motivated agenda. Speaking in an interview with ABC News Gh following the Chief Justiemotional public statement on her suspension, Adofo described the ongoing process as a “kangaroo investigation” with no real interest in truth or fairness. “It’s not going to be justice, it’s going to be all that they want,” he declared.
He questioned the committee’s integrity and motives, particularly criticizing the unexplained relocation of the hearing venue. “They should give a reason why they have moved the hearing from their own building to a different place,” he demanded, referencing the CJ’s claim that the move to Edu Lounge was designed to intimidate her. Adofo suggested that such procedural irregularities only reinforce public suspicion that the committee’s real mission is political persecution, not accountability. “All is not well with the committee. It is disturbing to know what is going on,” he added.
Adofo further called out what he believes to be blatant disregard for due process and judicial ethics. “So far, we all know this committee is a kangaroo committee,” he asserted, accusing its members of allowing political bias to override legal standards. He urged the public to remain vigilant and demand transparency and fairness in the process. “We cannot have a justice system where outcomes are determined by political loyalty. This is about the future of rule of law in Ghana,” Adofo warned. His comments underscore growing concern among legal experts and civil society about the implications of the case for democratic accountability and constitutional order.
