Samuel Harrison-Cudjoe, Programmes Officer at the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), has stated that Ghanaian culture does not promote corruption.
Speaking on ABC’s Morning Show, Harrison emphasized that corruption is not a result of culture but rather a consequence of individuals misusing the culture for their own selfish interests.
His comments follow the minority leader, Afenyo Markin’s, intimation that Ghana’s culture and social pressures might be causing political corruption in the country.
However, Samuel Harrison explained that the real issue lies in greed and the weakness of laws and politicisation of corruption in the country, which must be addressed in the fight against corruption.
Samuel Harrison-Cudjoe further emphasized that Ghana still has a significant opportunity to effectively combat corruption.
He pointed out that the key to making progress in the fight against corruption lies in the nation’s collective willingness to take action.
According to him, with the right determination and commitment from both the government and the people, corruption can be tackled successfully.
