The Court of Appeal has dismissed an application by Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, which sought to halt his ongoing criminal trial.
Popularly known as NAM1, the embattled businessman filed the motion in connection with an appeal challenging a High Court’s directive in 2024 that ordered him to open his defence.
He faces numerous charges including defrauding by false pretence, money laundering, and the sale of gold without a license.
His legal team had also sought a stay of proceedings pending the outcome of the appeal.
On Monday, May 19, 2025, state prosecutors argued that the application was an overreach and lacked merit, a position upheld by the three-member appellate panel presided over by Justice Gbiel Suurbaareh.
Justices Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe and Christopher Archer concurred in the unanimous decision.
“This is a step toward justice,” said Frederick Forson, spokesperson for the aggrieved Menzgold customers, who welcomed the ruling.
Meanwhile, NAM1 has hinted at escalating the matter to the Supreme Court, pending advice from his legal counsel.
