Private legal practitioner Yaw Danquah has criticized the Attorney General (AG) for his approach to the NSB Scandal trial, particularly his public statements before the hearing.
Speaking on ABC in the Morning, Danquah argued that the AG overstepped his boundaries with press conferences that were not in line with his official duties.
According to Danquah, the AG failed in his responsibility by not focusing on presenting solid evidence in court rather than speaking broadly in the public domain, stressing that the AG’s role should be to build a strong case rather than influence public opinion.
Danquah also highlighted the imbalance in the case, noting that Adu-Boahen, unlike the AG, was not given the platform to defend himself in the public sphere.
“Adu-Boahen has never been given the platform to also tell his side of the story, that in itself was bad,” he remarked. His comments come as the AG faces consequences for his actions, which Danquah claims have impacted the legal proceedings.
Further emphasizing the AG’s missteps, Danquah pointed out that the press conference went beyond the scope of the AG’s duties.
“He went beyond what he is supposed to do and he is facing the consequences right now,” Danquah concluded, asserting that the AG should focus on his core responsibility of representing the nation in the courtroom rather than trialing individuals in the court of public opinion.
