The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that one of its escort convoys protecting civilians in the Upper East Region came under a deadly attack on Monday morning.
According to a statement issued by the military’s Department of Public Relations, the convoy—tasked with escorting about 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga—was ambushed by unidentified armed men at Binduri on April 27, 2026.

The attackers reportedly opened fire on the convoy multiple times, leading to the deaths of three civilians, while one other person sustained injuries.
The military said troops accompanying the convoy returned fire and successfully repelled the attack. In the ensuing confrontation, seven of the assailants were killed.
A search operation conducted after the incident led to the retrieval of an automatic rifle, two fully loaded magazines containing 20 rounds each, and an additional 176 rounds of ammunition. The statement noted that the weapons were recovered from an assailant who reportedly fled into a nearby mosque.
Security forces have since arrested ten suspects in connection with the attack, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Ghana Armed Forces cautioned the public against interfering with military operations, urging civilians to cooperate with security personnel in conflict-prone areas.
The military also extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
