The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has recalled 78 personnel who were previously interdicted for alleged offences, including recruitment and visa fraud. The affected officers comprise 14 senior officers and 64 other ranks.
Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) Samuel Basintale Amadu announced the recall during a meeting at the GIS headquarters last week, accompanied by his deputies. He emphasized that this move was not an act of amnesty but a step towards enforcing discipline and due process.
The recalled officers will undergo internal disciplinary procedures, with those found culpable facing appropriate sanctions. CGI Amadu also warned that cases involving fraud or recruitment malpractices would be referred to the police for further investigation.
“For those eligible for promotion, due diligence will be undertaken in light of the outcome of the trials they will be facing,” he stated.
He urged the officers to use this opportunity to demonstrate professionalism and uphold the integrity of the Service. The recalled personnel expressed their gratitude for the chance to reintegrate.
In recent years, GIS has intensified its crackdown on recruitment fraud, aligning with the Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2245), to safeguard the Service’s credibility.
