The Ministry of Education has approved 25 private senior high schools (SHSs) for inclusion in the 2025 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) under the Free SHS programme.
This marks the first time private SHSs are being integrated into the government’s flagship initiative to expand access to quality second-cycle education.
The selected institutions—classified as Category E—are co-educational day schools located across all 16 regions and offer a wide range of academic programmes, including General Arts, Science, Business, Technical, Visual Arts, Home Economics, and Agriculture.
According to a statement from the Ghana Education Service (GES), signed by Prince Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instruction Division, the school selection deadline has been extended to Wednesday, June 25, 2025, to allow candidates to consider the newly added options.
“This milestone reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to equity and access in education,” the statement noted. The pilot initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), targets areas where public SHSs are over-subscribed and will be monitored closely for future expansion.
Capacity-building and infrastructural support will be provided to ensure compliance with Free SHS standards.
