The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued an unreserved apology following public backlash over comments she made regarding staff postings to the northern parts of Ghana.
In a press release dated May 5, 2026, the Minister addressed concerns arising from a widely circulated video in which she appeared to suggest that postings to the northern regions could be considered punitive.
She clarified that the remarks were a “genuine slip in communication” and did not reflect her actual views or the official policies guiding staff postings within the Public Service.
According to her, the comments were made in response to a media question about allegations that some technocrats involved in issuing development permits without due process are often reposted within nearby districts, allowing such practices to continue.
“In my response, I referenced instances where some individuals had been posted to areas far from their usual places of residence,” she explained, adding that her choice of words unintentionally created the impression that such postings were meant as punishment.
The Minister acknowledged the concerns generated by the statement and extended an apology to all Ghanaians, particularly residents of the northern regions, for any offence or discomfort caused.
“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the Northern Regions,” she stated.
She further assured the public of her commitment to fairness, professionalism, and due process in administrative decisions, including staff postings and transfers.
“I hold the highest regard for equity and professionalism and remain fully committed to ensuring that all administrative decisions are carried out strictly in accordance with laid-down rules and regulations, without prejudice,” she added.
Reaffirming her dedication to public service, the Minister noted that she remains committed to serving the people of the Greater Accra Region with integrity, fairness, and accountability.
She urged the public to consider the matter clarified.
