Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has alleged that a faction within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is actively working to extend President John Dramani Mahama’s rule beyond constitutional limits.
Addressing the press during a critique of the President’s first 120 days in office, Afenyo-Markin claimed, “A certain group in the NDC is pushing for a third term for John Dramani Mahama.”
He warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not allow any attempt to undermine the country’s democratic principles.
He linked the controversial suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to what he described as the NDC’s broader agenda to eliminate institutional obstacles to their plans.
“The NDC knows Chief Justice Torkornoo will not allow their scheme; that’s why they’ve taken her out,” Afenyo-Markin claimed.
He suggested that removing her from office was a strategic move to smooth the path for altering the constitutional order.
Afenyo-Markin maintained that the NPP and the Minority in Parliament would not stand idly by while what he termed “diabolic schemes” unfold.
“They will never have their way. We see through their agenda, and we will not let them rewrite the rules to benefit one man,” he emphasized.
He reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to safeguarding constitutional integrity and protecting the nation’s democratic trajectory.
