Former Railway Minister and former Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey, has thrown his support behind Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urging him to remain resolute in his work.
Speaking on Focus on ABC on February 6, Ghartey praised Afenyo-Markin, describing him as a tough leader who is performing well.
“I think he is doing well. He is tough, and I wish him well,” he stated.
However, he advised MPs to be mindful of their words and actions, emphasizing that reckless utterances could deepen the growing political tensions in Parliament.
Addressing the increasing chaos in the legislative chamber, Ghartey expressed concern over the state of parliamentary debates, cautioning that the House should not descend into physical confrontations.
“The chaos is regrettable; Parliament is not a boxing ring,” he warned, urging MPs to engage each other with tolerance and respect.
Drawing from his own experiences, he reminded lawmakers of the dangers of instability, stating, “I have lived under military rule, and I will say what we have now is ten times better.”
He stressed the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s democracy, despite political differences.
