Tensions erupted at Kasoa Kumbe in the Opeikuma area of the Awutu Senya East Municipality as over 150 residents clashed with police officers and suspected landguards over a forced eviction.
The residents were removed from their homes following a reported court judgment in favor of one Kwame Baafi, who claims ownership of more than 10 acres of land.
According to affected residents, the eviction came without prior notice, leaving them stranded.
“We woke up to see police and landguards locking up our homes. There was no warning, no opportunity for us to respond,” a resident lamented. Many expressed frustration over what they described as an unjust and forceful displacement.
The situation escalated as residents resisted the eviction, leading to confrontations with police and landguards. Some residents attempted to prevent the demolition of their homes, arguing that they had legally acquired their lands and had lived there for years.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Gomoa Kumbe, Nana Okoboban Kwao II, expressed shock at the actions taken by the police, stating that proper procedures should have been followed.
Assemblyman for Kasoa Opeikuma, Habib Abdulai, has also called for justice, urging authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
