President John Mahama has revealed that he will receive the much-anticipated Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) report next week.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the Central Region during his Thank You Tour, the President vowed that findings from the report will be handed over to the appropriate investigative bodies to pursue individuals who have unlawfully enriched themselves at the expense of the nation.
“Next week, the ORAL Committee that I set up is going to present its report to me, and I’ll refer it to the investigative organisations to start their investigations against people who have misappropriated the resources of this nation,” Mahama stated.
No One is Above Scrutiny – Past & Present Officials on Alert
In a bold declaration, President Mahama emphasized that the fight against corruption will not be limited to the previous administration. He assured Ghanaians that his government will enforce the same level of accountability on both past and current officeholders.
“As we investigate those who have just left office and we carry out our Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), those who are current office bearers should also know that they will be held to the same standard as we are holding the past regime,” he warned.
To drive home his message, the President invoked a Ghanaian proverb:
“The stick that is used to beat Takyi is the same stick that will be used on Baah.”
This, he explained, means that no one will be spared in the quest to restore accountability and integrity in governance.
A New Code of Conduct for Public Officials
Beyond recovering looted assets, Mahama announced plans to introduce a strict code of conduct for individuals entrusted with public office. The initiative aims to curb corruption from within and prevent future mismanagement of state resources.
The President’s strong stance on corruption has sparked discussions on whether this crackdown will lead to high-profile prosecutions or whether political influence will shield some individuals.
